Angry Pet Peeves in Driving

What are your pet peeves when it comes to driving? I have a couple. First and foremost is when I am driving on a country road doing 60 to 70 MPH and there is nothing behind me as far as the eye can see, and some jerk pulls out in front of me doing 30 MPH for a quarter mile and them comes to a near stop to turn off the road. Number two is the mullets that drive 50 MPH in the left lane on the Interstate and wont move over.

I agree with both of those, as I live in the "Hill Country" and at the lake! Another one is the people with cell phones who can't reach the turn signals or the cruise control button!

If you're in the left lane, on the hwy, and someone is closing in on your six, pull to the right and let them go buy. It's the passing lane and regardless of the speedlimit I think it's safer to let those pass that want to.

Especially if they are on a motorcycle.

Here's mine:

-Bikers who ride in the middle of a busy street. (this includes joggers, walkers, etc.)
-Older drivers (the ones in the Crown Vic.'s with the hats in the backseat window, going EXACTLY the speed limit)
-Ricer drivers with the loud exhaust, and blaring Rap
-People who stop to check thier mail box
-Teenage girl drivers (no offence to any on here) who ride my bumper on the highway when I'm already going 75MPH as if that is not fast enough for them
-People who when they drive, think its cool to take up two lanes at once
-People on CELL PHONES (like they can't WAIT to talk to this person, its so important that they have to talk to them while driving, they can't wait until they get there??)
-People who are at the gas pumps and are just sitting in thier car (all the time seeing you behind them waiting for the pump) and they are reading the paper, cleaning out thier car, etc.

Thats exactly what I am saying, I hate when people block the left lane, ie the passing lane.

Oh dont get me started. I'm a truck driver so I have the pleasure of dealing with America's best drivers on a daily basis.
One is when I'm driving and somebody who's directly behind me changes lanes, passes me, gets infront of me just to hit their brakes and make a turn.
Another is when somebody is driving slow in the right lane, I go to pass them, then soon as I'm next to them they decide to speed up so I cant pass.
One more is when somebody infront of me is driving slow, I have a "hole" in the next lane to change into so I can pass. But as soon as my blinker goes on the car behind me speeds up preventing me from changing lanes.
Or how about when people stop at a stop sign/light and pull all the way up to the corner of the intersection preventing me from making a turn down the road that they are on (my trailer will end up taking their front end off)
Okay, what about people who play their music so loud I can hear it over my radio, diesel engine, and cb radio with my windows up and ac on.
Oh there's just to many, I can go on and on but my fingers already hurt.

I get paid to deal with all of the above problems. There is nothing as refreshing as the feeling of taking care of these problems with a little pen and paper. That and the honks and waves by all of the supporters who hate the above driving habits.

Are you a police officer, jfinlen?

I have too many pet peeves to list.... but I'll try.

Basically every one that 13MWZ listed - and I don't know why, but it really annoys me when people treat truckers like dirt by how they drive around them - cutting them off, slamming their brakes in front of them, not slowing to let them onto the freeway, or over into their lane so poeple can merge on the trucker's right.

Also, I hate it when people don't use their blinkers - they just pop on over, and if you're lucky you get one quick flash of it once they've already moved in front of you. Or, they'll start braking, and you assume that they'll probably let up once they get more room between them and the car in front of them, since you don't see a blinker, but instead they just keep slowing down, almost to a stop, and then turn... no blinker.

Or, when you're trying to pull out of a shopping center into heavy traffic, and the guy in the right lane is coming real slowly, and then just turns in right next to you - no blinker... thanks buddy, I wish I would've known I could've pulled out... now I get to sit for a while longer.

Lastly, I hate tailgaters (well, I don't hate them , I hate what they do ), especially when there's one or even two lanes to your left which they can pass in. Or, if you do go to move over, they quickly move over faster and speed past on the right, only to cut back in front of you and be stuck moving at the same speed everyone else is going, again. This especially bugs me on two-lane roads, where there's no way they could possibly gain anything by passing... except that they're now in front of you. They just can't stand to see a few feet of space between you and the car you're following.

Wow, that was long... but straight from the heart.

(It's late, and smileys are fun )

People on cell phones.. they totally do not pay attention to their driving. Had an incident tonight with one. My wife and I are driving home from the store. I get behind this guy who is on his phone, driving 20 under the speed limit, swerving, and driving over two lanes on a 4 land road (2 lanes each direction). We get to a red traffic light. He finally finds a lane, I take another behind some other guy that was sitting there a while. The light turns green. I keep up with the other guy in front of me trying to keep ahead of the moron swerving while yakking on his cell phone. He sees what I'm up to and speeds up, trying to cut me off. The lane goes down to one, this guy is now side to side with me.. honking on his horn. Finally he falls way back and goes back to his cell phone conversation.. slowing down well below the speed limit swerving. Meanwhile the guy in front of me pulls over and lets me by. We pull up to the next light.. the guy pulls up along side of me and starts cursing me out "What do you think you're *&!@^#*! cool or something?" I yell back something I won't repeat here and take off. Meanwhile the guy on the cell phone decided to speed up to catch up to me and follows me, trying to run me off the road. All I was trying to do is to keep clueless drivers like him behind me.. so they can swerve all they want. I prefer to put distance between us. So I guess my pet peeve is clueless drivers on cell phones. Oh yeah, this guy was also breaking the law by not having a hands free phone. If I hadn't forgotten my cell phone, I would have been summoning the police.

I'm not a truck driver but I commute 600 miles on a weekly basis. I've been doing this for 2.5 years now.

I respect truckers and their mission, but at times, it seems like so many of them (like 4-wheeler drivers too) are just there to upset the apple cart...

like: driving in the far left lane when signs specifically state: Left lane NO Trucks!

...so here I am, trying to get somewhere, with 3 lanes of traffic to choose from and an 18-wheeler blocking each of those lanes going uphill.

Like...when on I'm cruising along at a decent clip and an 18-wheeler pulls out to pass, blocking me and making me slow to a crawl while he attempts to pass another trucker, then he runs out of steam, doesn't complete the pass and finally moves back over to the right...all the time wasted that I could've been 2 or 3 miles down the road at that point. (I've experienced this one PLENTY in the last 2.5 years!)

I know that there are plenty of stupid drivers out there to get our blood-pressure up, it doesn't matter if they're in an 18-wheeler, station wagon, sports car, SUV or what...no class of vehicle is exempt from having a stupid driver behind the wheel.

I guess the best thing we can do is be tolerant of the stupidity...we'll likely have a heart attack/stroke/accident if we don't.

Regards,
Scott

I commute 70 miles each way 4 days a week in downtown Detriot... takes me about an hour +15 to get in and 2.5 to get home (yeah, that's a LONG time)... and I've taken to yelling to myself at other drivers... such as:
-The person who drives 10-15 under the speed limit for whatever reason, then speeds up when you're trying to pass them, then slows back down, speeds back up... leave the car at home and walk if you don't want to drive the speed limit!
-The person who actually has to look straight at the cell phone in order to dial. I have speakerphone. I have a phonebook. I only dial at red lights. If you didn't save the number ahead of time, please refrain from doing it IN MY LANE! And the other guy driving next to you would also appreciate it if you kept out of HIS LANE as well!
*alternatively*-The guy who swerves off the road to the shoulder so fast you think there must be a small child directly in his path so you start to slam on your brakes. Then you realize he was just receiving a phone call. It's a nice gesture... but they have caller ID for a reason...
-The people who think they're being stealthy, sneaky, or just cool because they can duck in between cars with minimal space between said cars and no turn signal. Sometimes, it isn't enough for their Avalanche, like the woman the other day who almost took out my front quarter panel. If you want to turn or change lanes, let the other three lanes of traffic know and we can accomodate the request at our convenience.
-Semis passing semis. In a construction zone. In rush hour. Four lanes of traffic reduced to two already makes things bad. Then, for whatever reason, you go and block both lanes of traffic, making the situation worse... I have a lot of respect for most semi drivers... but you guys (meaning people who do this) just suck.
-The woman who passes me because I left 12 feet of following distance, only to slow down so that she has 20. Why did you have to get around me again?
-The dreaded "student driver"... goes easily 25 under the speed limit, cannot maneuver turns, cannot change lanes, takes enormous amounts of time to make up his or her mind... please instructors, don't take the kids out during peak traffic until they've driven in a less hectic situation!
-The distracted driver. Distracted by the six kids in the back of her minivan, this woman turns around to yell at them at red lights, not turning back to the road until I honk to tell her the light has turned green. It's worse when you see these people actually IN the back seat...
Finally... EVERYONE who all of the sudden decided that they should also leave for work around 4:45 too! What's wrong with you?? Go back to bed! You're making my morning commute much, much worse than it has to be!!!
Road rage? No... I think it's funny... This is my last day at work for three months (school term!) so I won't have to deal with that for a while!

I'm so glad I don't have the daily commute and work from home

Forgotten how bad it was out there

Take care - and remember - anger hurts you more than them

i deal with all of these things, driving from n.w. to s.e. ohio every few weekends for school. one of my favorites was the one mentioned where someone will pull out in front of you, then turn. I also have respect for our truckers out there. i alwasy stay back at stoplights so they can turn, and hate when people cut trucks off so they dont get stuck behind them, thats what causes accidents.

actually, my mom is making a list of all her senior citizen driver pet peeves. she is going to hang the list in her car when she gets old so she remembers what she hated to be following, so people wont yell at her, lol.

Two lane highway. Two jerks side by side, taking up both lanes (slow lane and passing lane) and driving the speed limit or below the speed limit!!!
