Anyone ever have this prob. I have a 99 F250 SD which i bought 4 months ago. I love it totally!! But i notice the check engine light flickers quite a bit. No problems with performance(pulls like a frieght train!) but light still flickers. Wondered if i have a cylinder missfire or if the cps is on the way out. I see on this site they are bad for going. If anyone has had this prob. i would appreciate all the help i could get. Thanks in advance Lance!!
Seems to do it all the time. On the throttle, off the throttle or at an idle. I have no chips. The only mods i've done are an air filter and a set of stacks (no muffler). I think the truck may need glowplugs. I have new ones but have not installed them yet. But that shouldn't matter once the truck is warmed up right? It did this before i did any mods. Thanks for any advice you can give! Have a good day!
I notice that after truck is warm if i shut the truck off and start it again it stops. And as long as the engine is warm it won't do it. Just does it first thing in the morning or if truck sits to long and gets cold. But the only way to get it to stop is stop and restart the motor. Forgot to mention that.
i thought it may have been an over boost situation, but the ses light would only flicker on under full throttle. you may have a problem with your EBPV(exhaust back pressure valve) since it is only happening when cold. if you have not done so yet i would get it scanned to see if there are any stored fault codes. if you dont have access to a scanner some autoparts stores will do it for you for free(autozone, checker auto parts)
Hey wlihntr hows it going. I have some info i hope you can help me with. I scanned the truck with my buddies tool and got some coes. A P1209 and a P1211. It has to do with inj pressure. Here are some readings i got for Inj Control Pressure:
With truck warm at start up about 1100 psi
Slowly drops to between 700-750 psi
Reving truck at 2000 rpm between 900-950
When i started the truck this morning the engine light stayed on and would not shut off. Engine idle a little ruff. But when the truck is warm it runs great. Pulls real hard. Does this mean my HPOP is on its last legs? I am very mechanically inclined and wonder if this is a job i can handle myself. Never afriad to try anything once. Also is there a shrader valve on the fuel lines anywhere. If so what should the feul pressure be. Any light you can shed on the subject would very much appreciated!!! Thanks agian for your replies and have a great day!!!!!@
Somebody correct me if I am wrong here please as I am a little uncertain of the facts.
I would check the IPR (injector pressure control) valve on the bottom of the HPOP before you condemn the pump. I have read where people have been able to take them out and clean them with good success. They are not outlandish in price either. I heard $100.00 + at Ford.

I just looked in my Chilton manual under OBD-II Trouble Codes and it says that P1209 is the High Pressure Oil Pump Pressure Sensor Fault. It don't have P1211 listed though. I'm still lookin in there to see if it has anything listed about how much pressure they should be putting out. You might need to call the dealership and ask one of their diesel mechanics.
