How can i set the timing in my 85 ranger 2.8.I`ve tried everything

Can I assume you still have the EEC-IV/TFI-IV ignition system still installed? If so, see "ignition timing tests" at www.dalidesign.com/hbook/eectest.html Timing is adjusted by rotating the distributor. Note that it is absolutely essential to unplug the SPOUT connector when setting base timing.
