Question 302 starting/running question

My boss has an 89 Bronco 4x4 with an auto. When you attempt to start it up it just cranks over, but if you remove the wire from the S terminal on the starter solenoid and use a remote starter it will start up and run. After it starts if you put the wire back on the S terminal it will kill the engine. If you let it get to operating temperature and put the wire on the S terminal it will stay running and restart with the key. My question is has any of you seen or heard of this before, this has got both of us stumped. We both are are old school, fuel injection is a foreign technology for us. We are used to carbs. Thanks in advance for any replies.

my guess would be the wire to the s terminal is grounded somewhere, as that is the only variable that has changed. I dunno...good luck
