I would recommend if you really want the extra security of SP2 that you do a format and reinstall of XP, SP1, and then SP2 before you reinstall your applications.
This is exactly what was finally done to my computer. It's not set back up yet, so I can not report on whether it fixed the problems. I am online now with an older computer. I bought a router and will set up both computers with internet access. Hope I am not asking for trouble there also!
Been a month since I updated and I have only noticed one small issue. On one of the forums I'm in, people frequently post Quicktime video attachments. I used to be able to just click on them and view them but now the only way I can view them is to save the videos to my hard drive and then view them.
I did have to disable the MS firewall since I'm very happy with the Norton products I'm running.
Let MS refine that service pack for a couple of months. I started installing it on a network of 14 computers and I backed out after the second one. It causes A LOT of problems with some computers, especially in the internet and network settings.

It's about time they close up those huge security holes inherent with XP, but you will need a whole weekend to get it set up
I have yet to have a problem with it. I just updated about 500 pc's with service pack 2 without a problem. I just am not seeing all of these problems that people are having. We have some older pc's and some new pc's and not one problem with sp2. We have more problems with norton screwing stuff up on the pc's than with anything else.
No problems here with SP2, think the problems people are having with it are self inflicted. if you have two programs trying to do the same thing, problems can occur. also not alot of people realize that you have to keep your computer drivers and programs up to date. don't take offence to this but AOL and Dell(biggest well known offenders) do alot to make it possible for stupid people(about computers) to have somewhat working computers. not all the problems you have with windows is Microsoft's fault.
I installed it and hate the results - I can not even get it to let me restore it to what it was before. It takes about 10 minutes to start, and always wants to go to the MS site and check for updates. I use dual monitors and a special drive controller - both of which it seems to not like.
I have it somewhat stable now, but wish I had never installed it.
I have had zero problems since installing it on my Dell, my mom has a homebuilt that I put together for her, no problems there, either. It actually seems to have cleared up a few small bugs that we both were having. Of course, as with any Microsoft product, I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop...! Now, if we could just get our ISP to get something like some reliabilty going! -TD
What isp do you have?? Do you have dail up, or is that a dumb question?
This afternoon my computer started acting up.
The desk top disapeared everything was changed.
No internet connection.
Computer switched back to dial up by itself.
Called the cable company.
He had me go in and redo the IP address.
Then shut down.
1st unplug modem box.
2nd unplug router.
Leave unpluged for a few minutes.
It works again.
I did install the new service pack a few weeks ago.

I take it you've done all of your other updates. Did you try Micro-softs tec support? They might be able to help you. and put the blame on them or they won't do any thing.
I just did last night. About 2 mins before i read this post. To bad i didnt see it first.
So far i havent notcied any problems. Sound slike its a hit or miss situation.
Yes, updates are current.
Scanned for viruses.
Maybe a bug? Norten doesn't show anything after scan.
It's working ok for now.
Thanks.
Try this go to trend -micro site and try there free anti virus soft ware. Idid that with mind and it found stuff that Norton would not pick up on. Plus it will go after spyware as well.

Mediacom cable modem. It slows down and then goes offline for about an hour every night, they can't seem to get it figured out. Looking into wireless right now. -TD
