In my 2002 F550 7.3L Powerstroke, the engine quits with symptoms just like what others describe in postings on this site. It acts like a cam position sensor failure. The truck only has 16,000 miles on it. I use it to tow a heavy 5th wheel and the part seems to fail when its hot in the engine compartment. The engine and tranny are NOT overheating - it just quits suddenly, the tach drops to 0, sometimes it restarts itself because the truck is still rolling. Other times I have to pull over, raise the hood and wait for it to cool down. The Ford dealer where I bought the truck says it's not throwing a code so they don't want to fix it. Any ideas on a fix other than continuing to replace the part? Anyone else having this experience??
This is classic symptoms of a failing Hall effect sender - just what your CMP sensor is. If the dealer will not fix it, it may be worth your time and effort to just go to International and get a CAMP sensor for your 02 T444E. That's thier version of the Powerstroke. It's exactly the same part except for the price. About $60.00 less. It's a very quick and easy replacement. It takes about 5 minutes if you know where to go and how to do it. It's mounted on the front of the block at about 10:00 in relation to the crankshaft pulley. One plug, one bolt, some gentle but firm turning and pulling and it's out.
I also have a 550, there is just NOTHING that I would be afraid to tow. LOVE it.
It sure sounds like your cps but if your chipped, pull your chip. My first superchip acted just like a camp. If your dealer won't fix it and it is the cps I'd find a new dealer. good luck

The second time it takes 5 minutes. The first time, when you discover that they bolted that tiny bolt down as if it held the whole truck together, it can take longer. Make sure you have a nice crisp strong socket and you are on it squarely. If you round it off, it ends up taking a lot more than 5 minutes!

My own CPS problem nevre showed itself till thetruck was good and warm you could usuall drive it for an hoour before the first failure would occur and no it didn't throw codes, the failure wooould just happen to fast I gues and the international prts are much less expensive
