Stereo System

I just bought a 2000 X. Currently, the front door speakers are working. How do you get the other 4 rear speakers to work. Also, there are additional cables on the floor below the rear bench set. What are they for? I appreciate any imput. Thank you.

This may sound too easy, but check the front to rear fade control on the radio. the 4 rear speakers are wired together. What type of wires are in the back under the seat?

Hi Unclemuck,

Thanks for the response. There are 4 wires under the seat. 2 with female plugs and 2 with male plugs. There are also 4 setes of blue wires tied together with open leads. The same set up is under the dash board adjcent to the radio.
I will adjust the fade and balance. Also inquiring through the web, for a wiring diagram for the truck.

I think the owner before had installed a speaker box and amp. I am currently look for information on what I can do to install a amp and speaker box using the existing stock 6 disc indash stereo. I've checked places like Circuit City but they want 150 just to install my own equipment.

Has anyone installed their own amp and speaker box? I know there is a module you have to connect to the stereo to run the RCA cables from. Has anyone installed their own? Any information is greatly appreciated...Thanks

ps...I got a 2001 psd X

As for installing a sub and amp for your factory radio..... Most amp hav a speaker level input. Just splice into the speaker wires at the speaker in the rear panel and wire to the amps speaker level input then back out to the sub.

Unclemuck,

Thanks for the info. What about the remote wire for the amp? Where did you hook that up to? Also where did you run the wiring for the amp and speaker box? Under the frame and come up through the floor or on the inside of the vehicle under the carpeting. I did look under my x and noticed a grommet about under the middle row. I wounder if I can run the wiring through it enstead of the under the carpet.

Any information/instruction would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again...

I replaced the radio on my truck with an aftermarket one, so I hooked my amp up with RCA cables. (so I'm not sure about wiring fore romote on) I think that wire just sees power on at the radio but I'm not sure what voltage it outputs to the amp. Alot of good info in the forums at http://www.sounddomain.com/

I ran my amp power thru the firewall on the passenger side. pull back the carpet on the passenger side up under the dash and you'll find a grommet to pass the wire thru. Then just pull off the kick panel and door sill plates for easy wire run to the rear. There is already a factory wire run under there. Good luck and let me know if ya have any more q's.

Marcus Aurelius........did you ever get your speakers working? I had TV and DVD player added to the factory system and when I got the EX back, the rear speakers were not working. The shop took off the center floor console when they ran some wiring and unhooked a plug at the rear of the console. Well, they forgot to reconnect it and the rear speakers were off. That is another place you might want to check.
Savaged1, to add an amp to the factory radio you need a converter (that taps into the speaker wires and goes to RCA plugs) because the stock radio doesn't have the RCA outputs. A stereo shop shouldn't charge you that much to do the install. I think I paid around 40-50 including the parts. All my wires are under the carpet, amp is under second row seats.

Here's what I found. The center console has rear controls for volume and so on. That must be pluged in for the rear speakers to work. It also works to fix the ohm's problem for the rear four and the two front speakers. If you have any questions give me a yell.
