I replaced the IAC and fixed my rough idle trouble. I thought my minor shift troubles would go away also but unfortunatley they didn't. Here is the trouble.
When the truck is cold and I immediatly have to get it up to high speed, 60-70 mhp, the tranny seems to shift poorly from 3rd to 4th. I can hear the motor rev for a second between the shift.
If I drive thru the neighborhood and get the temp up then the truck shifts fine. The problem only occurs when starting the truck and immediatly going onto the highway or anywhere else that requires high speeds. Once she warms up all is well.
Any idea what is causing this? It has 22,000 miles since last tranny fluid change.
I have the exact same problem with my truck. I cleaned the IAC and that fixed the idle problem. Just changed the tranny fluid and filter at 95,000 miles (used truck and did not know last time this was done). Truck exhibits this problem only when cold. Hauling Boat do you still have your truck and were you able to cure the problem? I have a '00 F-150 S.Cab Flare with the 5.4. Any more info would be appreciated. Any one else have any ideas? Thank you.
Does any one have an idea what causes this? Has any one experienced this? Truck is an '00 F-150 SC 4X4 with the 5.4 and Automatic. It has 98,000 miles and did this before fluid was changed and after. Only noticed the problem because of the weather getting colder. Once truck warms up all is fine. Thank you.
My 97 F150 Lariat with a 4.6 does the same thing. It seems to me it's the overdrive is not engaging until the transmission warms up. Through the summer months....no problem. Transmission has 142k miles on it.
DDrumman; Do you know how long your truck has been doing this? I wonder if this is a common thing with the OD on these transmissions and nothing to worry about, or worn internals and a sign of big time future problems? I can live with it if I wont have problems for quite a while. Thanks.
