02 Sensor Trouble

Check Engine light came on in my '96 Explorer. I read all the posts from the good people here in the Forum and on that advise went to AutoZone for a code check which read: P0133, Bank 1, Sensor 1, slow response. I am going to change this one out but...where exactly is the Bank 1, Sensor 1 located?

Same fault code with my '96 Explorer. The sensor is located about half way down the passenger side exhaust manifold. I had success in removing the inner fender skirt and using a 7/8" flare nut wrench to remove. With the fender skirt removed, the sensor will be at about 10 o'clock in the well. There wasn't enough room to rotate a rachet using the O2 sensor socket available from Autozone. The flare nut wrench aids in preventing slippage on the hex, and with it was able to use a 1/2" long socket extension to get a couple of good wraps on the sensor with a 3 lb. hammer.

Sensor replaced

Took your advise and removed the fender skirt. Hit the sensor with some penetrating oil and warmed the engine a few minutes. O2 sensor came right out. Not as easy as changing sparkplugs but not to bad...Thanks!
