I had posted awhile back about the classic torque converter/tranny shudder in between 3 and OD. I installed the B&M shift improver kit over the past weekend and I have had no problems with shifts at all. The kit was the mechanical shift improver which basically changes the valve body springs. I have to admit I was really nervous about diggin that far into the E4OD, but I was tired of the shudder. The work took me about 7 hours to complete but I am very pleased with the result. Much firmer shifts from 1-2 and 2-3. I can even feel when the E4OD goes into overdrive. All together with fluid, filter, shift kit and pan plug was about $70. I will keep you guys posted on. By the way, the tranny has 130,000 miles behind a 302 with the same miles.
Still no shudder from the tranny or torque converter. It was not the filter/oil change that suddenly improved the tranny. Early in the spring was the first oil/filter change and nothing changed. I found that I had a bad TPS, replaced it and set the correct voltage. Still had the tranny shudder. I had a code 628 (excessive torque converter slippage) and now I have none.
Guess what? No shudder/codes/leakage. I can't believe I didn't do this sooner. One thing I definitely recommend is to clean the connection to the solenoid valve manifold and the area around it. Once cleaned, apply petroleum jelly to wire end of the connection. The placement of this connector couldn't be in a worse position to catch all of the different engine fluids and let it sit there and accumulate, mixing with road grime and everything else. Keep you posted.
