Don't waste your money. Spend the bucks on a real Motorcraft DS-II module. The stocker will outperform the MSD all the way to 5500 RPM and you don't want to rev a 351M that high.
You could. Or you could upgrade to a Ford TFI coil set up for more spark voltage/hotter spark. You can get the coil and mounting bracket of the '80's Ford vehicles in the boneyards cheap. You'll just need to get the correct TFI coil wire.
whats the 351M top out at? anyone know where to find this info. i was told 4000. i think thats low. cause i couldn't do 80 if thats the case. Anyone? i'm thinking 5000 redline.
Torque, I meant the correct coil to dizzy wire in the spark plug wire set. Isn't the coil plug on the end of the TFI different than the plug on the end of the can coil?
Let me clarify. The TFI coil gets 12 volts on the primary side rather than the lower voltage supplied thru the ballast resistor wire from the switch in RUN.
The jury is still out whether the DS-II module will last with any increased current. I have not checked an installation to see whether there is a current increase tho.
The setup with power to the coil from the solenoid for cranking and from the ign switch thru a ballast resistor wire during run still seems to be a good setup.
Any way to tell the original module strap color for a duraspark set up that has been changed to a Mallory system? Mallory system quit working and im looking at getting the original DS2 setup again, but dont want to get the wrong one. Truck is a 79 150 with a 400, and its 4x4....
Thanks, i think im going to go to a salvage yard monday and pull a dizzy, module, and coil and swap it into this truck, along with the wiring. DS2 is a much better setup than this mallory system. By the way, sorry for intruding on this thread, it is just really close to my topic, and thought 2 very similar topics would be annoying.
79 would be blue grommet. Check the wiring diagrams in the galleries for user BB. You can pull the wiring out complete from the wiring harness without much clipping of wires.
