My brother changed the carb, the distributor, the plug wires and plugs and of course, now it won't start. It's all new stuff, the carb appears to be working, there is spark going through the wires, (timing light) and the gap has been rechecked. All of the old stuff was in dire need of replacement, but I'm suspect of the dist. I believe it has been installed properly except for the fact it does'nt even hint at wanting to fire. (some install trick I'm missing?)The engine was running before this all was done, allthough very badly. Only 20,000 on rebuilt motor. 1981 model F150
I would make sure that the engine is line up tdc and the rotor is coming up on #1. It is very easy to get it 180 degrees off when replacing. If anything, you can adjust it and see if it changes its behavior when trying to start ie. sputtering backfiring etc.
there is only 3 things needed to make it run compretion, spark and feul so if ya got spark, feul and compretion and it still dont run its got to be timing cuzz if this all dont happen at the time it needs to it'll just turn over and drain your battery that how i alway look at things like this with the k.i.s.s. plan you'll be amazed how many time youll stand back and go hmm look at that lol id just redo the timing and youll be good to go
