got a 70 f250 with factory a/c....bypassed frozen heat contol valve...in the engine compartment.....still no hot air.....no core leaks at all....is there a door flap stuck or what???
make sure the lower leever is in the defrost position and not in the off possition, this controlls a flap that can either divert or stop airflow from the fan. also, make sure your fan is coming on.
done checked da core for leaks and flow with water hose..........hose out of pump goes to a T one goes to core.....other to the engine block(in the front).....other hose out of the core goes to back of carb plate............all hose get hot...but the truck has factory air under dash.removed glove box and all cables seem to be moving freely......other than the slide **** at the bottom of the a/c unit....seems to do nuthin.......fan blowes out all vents at all times...............HELP!
Have a 1970 F250 myself. Havent pulled mine apart to see exctly how its put together, but it sounds like there is a blend door stuck or broken in the air box under the dash. If the hoses are getting hot and you know there is flow thru the core then you are making heat. Just not getting any air flow accross the core.
Check for leaves or other obsticles blocking or covering the heater core.
If all else fails, drop the air box and manualy open/close the blend doors.
My neighbor just took his heater system out and the core had about 2 inches of leaves heaped up against it. I drove it for a week last winter and it didn't give much heat either. Bet it does this winter. This truck is an F100.
My f100 doesnt seem to heat well either...I am curious as to how much flow there is through the heater core. If I don't run the fan, the heater/ac housing gets hot as heck..when I turn on the fan I get hot air at first then it cools off to luke warm at best. I put the heater core in and know it is not restricted...all new hoses too...is it just not getting enough flow?
Do you have the correct temp thermostat? Check that. I think it needs to be around 195 degrees. Parts store can tell you that. When I bought my truck it had a 165 degree thermostat in it and it made no heat. If you have the correct one in there and it's not sealing properly then that could also be the problem. There's a method for testing them but since they only cost a couple bucks, I'd just put in a new one and that way you'll be sure.
The 70f250 Ijust got , the guy put a diverter valve in the heater hose to the core so that he could keep from baking in the summer, this truck puts out a ton of heat. I bet you guys were parked under some trees and you have leaves by your core, or a mousenest, otherwise get a hotter stat maybe.
My trucks have the same basic problem. Makes heat, until you get on the highway and it cools down. Too cold of air and the NEW heater core just doesn't keep up. Of course these truck have NO insulation either. That is the big problem. I run 180 thermostat also. It makes GREAT heat in the summer
I had underdash heat/a-c in my '70,but took it out. What a pain. Heater core went out and it was a beech to replace. I put a regular heater box in it and it was better.
