Soon enough it will be nice outside to go out and play. Once the weather cools down to the low 90's - high 80's I say we should arrange a 4X4 run.
Crown King is usually a pretty good one. Its starts by Lake Plesant in the desert and ends up in tall pines. If anyone has any other good ones lets hear them..
Most importantly, lets actually plan on something!!!
I'm definitely game for that. Montana mountain is a good trail too, it's back behind the Superstitions. They even get snow back in there too (see gallery pic from last year). It wasn't much but it's better than the amount of snow we get in Gilbert...
Crown king is good too, did that on the quads years ago.
I have a whole book of off road trails with gps coordinates, mile markers, etc that is great. It even gives the degree of difficulty (which equals to how many dents I feel like putting in my truck).
I got it at world of maps on longmore (between dobson and alma school) and southern (I think that's where it is/was). It's called Guide to Arizona backroads and 4 wheel drive trails. It's a great guide though, and has trails all over AZ. Best part is, the guy that wrote it went down every single trail and wrote down EVERYTHING in it. Here's a link to it online so you can see what it looks like:

I dont have the bronco anymore But i got a 74f250 that I will be wheeling as soon as my rebuild is done prolly next weekend or so but if I am done I will defintaly be going where are you all going and when??
I may be in that same boat as you. My truck is going in the trader. It has 91K on it and once it hits 100K its going to drop about $3K in value. I owe about $1500 less then its worth as of NOW. You know, if it doesnt sell, I wont be that upset, I kinda like the truck. But if it does sell, the "5.4" in my name wont mean anything anymore.
Dont know where we are going, sounds like silverbullet has a good book of ideas. I cant go too over-board because I dont have a whole lot of ground clearence. What on the drawing board with the 74?
It all stock cept for the duals the 4bbl intake and carb. but I need to get my heads on and timed and that kinda stuff the droping it in eightier this weekend or next. I dont know when I can borrow the hoist. hopefully this weekend.
'78 bronco. Man, that was a great year for that truck, the first year for the big body style. My second vehicle was a '78 bronco with a 351m in it (had a cleveland but my sister blew it up), 4.11 gears, 35's. I loved that truck but it was such a money pit, and at 17, that's the last thing you need. 11 years later and I still regret selling it, would've made a great rock crawler project for me.
I promise to keep it mild if we find something. That book has a ton of trails in it that you can even drive a stock suv through, and then others that I wouldn't even be able to walk through on foot. I have enough ground clearance (for what I do) but my wheelbase always screws me in the long run. It'll be fun just to get out and have some friends to wheel with. My last buddy up and got married so he's on lockdown now.
Im not really worried about the terrian because Ive yet to find a place that I cant get in my dads 76 highboy so it will all be good for me just as long as my trucks done and ready to go. Yea I know what its like to have a project at 17. Iam only 17.
I dont really know the area around the valley, I'v been out by Black Canyon City a few times, but not enough remember it. Anyways, I just hope my truck'll make it. She's not as strong as she used to be
Thats what tow ropes are for.. I have learned after many-a time that some times you are the tower and sometimes your the towee, its not the worst thing to have to get towed out. We are all Ford guys here, we can help one another.
I will say that I have the worst picture of being towed (out of a canal). I was towed by a chevy which really doenst bug me because I like everything American made. What made it bad was the fact that he was a total "Chevy is better then everything" guy, and had a HUGE bowtie sticker that completely stands out in the picture. I like Chevys, I hate Chevy people.
I've got all kinds of fun toys that'll help us out, shovels, tow ropes, hi-lift jack, etc. ha ha. When I go wheeling, I plan on getting stuck just cuz you never know what'll happen. But like 5.4 said, we're here to help one another.
Man, all this talk of wheelin' is really getting me jacked. This weather needs to cool off soon. That pathetic rain we had the other nice was nothing but a teaser. All it did was dirty up my shiney badges... haa haa..
78 - Whatever you do, don't sell that bronco!! ha ha. I've regretted selling mine the day I signed that title. Get whatever runnin that you need to get runnin' so you can head out with us (that is if your rig is down). I'd like to try and hit something up this next month (that'd be oct for anyone not up to speed, ha ha) if you guys are in. The first and last weekends will be tough for me, going to NY next week for 5 days (can't wait, have never been!!) and I can't very well expect myself to miss the first big weekend of the dunes, Halloween. Anyways, let me know what you guys think. And for anyone else that wants to go, let's get some ideas out there!!
