Last week I blasted out the carbon from my mtr. I went out of town for some mil training, and when I came back and started the black stallion I walked around to ckeck the exhaust. I noticed white smoke, more like steam comeing out exhaust pipe. what i need to know is if I damaged anything ot is this normal after running small amounts of water through carb. I nevered poured enough in to make the engine slow but a few rpms.
I did find out why my mpg was crap.. I had 3 small holes in my fuel tank. after droping my tank and scrubbing off the patch of rust I applied the fuel tank patch I had bought from NAPA. while the tank was out I painted it and made rubber pads to sit between the tank and frame crossmembers. I also slipped old bike tubes over the tank straps. Sure it was hard to get back on but hey, I don't have to worry about metal on metal contact now .....right???
The steam could be moisture left over from your de-carbonization procedure that needed to get burnt off. But you should keep an eye on it. If the white steam keeps showing up every morning when you start it, then you might have head and/or gasket issues.
Thanks for the responses. Ken I have no O2 sensor. I know it's wierd but I guess the ppl who did the mtr swap used an older exhaust manifold. but anyway i will clean my plugs. I will check coolant level.
