4WD Locked...
A quick question for those of you 'in the know'. Last weekend I used my 2000 F250 SD 4WD in 4W-low to pull out 3 root ***** of some bushes at my neighbor's. Nothing real demanding of the truck, but now the gears are stuck in 4W-low and won't change back to 2WD. Btw., I have 4.30:1 gears and was pulling the "stumps" out in reverse/backwards with the truck sitting on pavement. I have automatic/shift-on-the-fly hubs with manual locks.
Anyone have any ideas how to "un-lock" the hubs at this stage?
Thanks!
Have you checked the fuses? Can you hear the servomotor humming when you switch?
Try this: Make sure the switch is turned to 4WD Low. Drive in a straight line for about 25 or 30 feet. Then come to a complete stop, put the tranny in neutral and apply the brakes. Turn the switch to 4WD High and let it sit there for at least 1 minute. If nothing happens, switch it back to 4WD Low and drive a little further. Then stop and try it all again. All this needs to be happening on level ground. If this does not work and you can’t hear the servomotor humming, and you’ve checked the fuses – the motor may be shot or you may have a bad relay. If it does work, then you can switch it to 2WD. I wouldn’t recommend going directly from 4WD Low to 2WD.
How often do you shift from 2WD to 4WD?
