sudden death syndrome

I have a '99 f250 turbo. I've rechipped, bigger exhaust, better airfilter. Recently the engine will kill abruptly. Has happened 5-6 times over last 3 months. Sometimes kills while cruising, sometimes backing out of driveway. Mechanic says it HAS to be the cam shaft sensor. $200.00 + later and it just killed on me today. In every case when the engine died, the only light that lit up was the service engine soon light. After waiting a few seconds it starts right up. Any suggestions?

Well you've done the CMP already. If the SES light is on a code will be set and stored in memory. Suggest getting the codes read.
