Engine noises
my oil level is good but pressure is low ,the knocking only occurs when hauling or towing.
I have a 1970 ford f250 sport custom with a 390 4 barrel carb on it.
I'm running 30weight oil . wondering if I should use a different weight?
or could it be timing or spark knock?
it also hesitates on takeoff should i adjust the carburater? i just need a list of simple things i can do to allevite this problem, thanks.
Also in my later model van I thought I had thrown a rod when pulling one hard grade - such a lound knock - more like a bang. I pulled over to see what was wrong and as the engine idled the knocking stopped. My friends, who are retired Ford mechnics, thought I had a peice of carbon built up in the combustion chamber and most likely it had turned white hot, causing that cylinder to fire early.
That must have been it as I have driven the van another 20,000 miles with no problem - I just don't use it to tow my boat.
That convinced me to rebuild my 72 3/4 ton and use it when I had some work to do.
