if it's any thing like my gmc 9i know it's a ford) i had the same problem with it. turns out there is this little red box of fuses under the hood 9not the ones on the side of the dashboard when you open the door. but under the hood and that llittle box was burned inside and melted. Find sometype of relay box and check the fuses.
been there done that everything looks good this is a limited model and has all the bells and whistles i also noticed that the doors don't lock anymore when you drive forward could this be a related problem???
If this is a 97 &if the brake lights flash when you lock/unlock the car with the remote, my guess would be a bad lamps out module. On the 97 the upper & lower brake lights are wired thru a splice with one wire going directly to the upper brake light and another going to the lamps out module & then to the lower brake lights.
It's a 96 limited I never noticed if the lights flash when you lock it also the systems check says the brake lighs are "ok if on" so i think it must be sensing the upper light
I'm still stumped but I will check to see if it has a lamps out module
thanks
If yours does have a LOM, there should be a display on the dash. Maybe one of the other guys will have the EVTM for a 96 and can tell you more. Good luck with it.
I will be watching this thred as my 97 went through the same problems except now it won't leave park without jumping brake switch wires. Also the the top light went out and the batt.lasts about two days before going dead.(new Batt.)Good power to new brake switch, but almost no power going out of same.Replaced plug and switch on brake with no results.Door locks work when driving down road.At present i have spent about 9 hrs. and some money on this better idea.

The EVTM shows the brake light switch is wired to a splice, with one wire to the shift lock, one wire to the side brake lights & one to the center brake light.
Are any of your brake lights working?
I answer to your question!no brake lights at all,and anouther 2 days of getting But you got to belive if i had a way to get TNT, I would solve my problem

If the brake lghts come on when you jump the switch, that new switch might be no good or needs adjusting. I'd check it with an ohm meter.
If the brake lights dont come on when you jump the switch check fuse 3 under dash for the center brake light & the other brake lights are wired thru a lamps out module (if yours is so equipped) that might be bad.
I hear you about the TNT, these electrical problems can make you crazy.
I hooked up the brake lower lights by cutting the wires to the bulbs this worked until the car went to the body shop. then both brake lights flashed when you turned od the right blinker left worked fine. sooooo i unhooked the trailer circuit and hooked up the lower two lights two the upper light and low and behold the doors lock automaticly again..... to be continued....
Thanks for the info. But my wife took care of the problem, can't say i like her the way she done it but!"""""""she went out and traded it into a new 2005 explorer xlt.......
