Check the FAQ at the top of the Forum for most of that info.

Standing at the front of the truck looking into the engine compartment, number 1 is on your left and closest to you.

Initial timing should be 6-12 BTDC. More advance will generally help with power and mileage. Too much advance will kick back on the starter. If it's just a hot start problem, I'd look at the cables and connections. Clean all connections and replace any suspect cables.

Question

thankyou it worked good, the timing was set at 30!!!!!! we retarded it to 12 and it runs a lot better.

It also smokes a little bit out of its left side is there anything we can do to prevent that short of a rebuild
