Toyota Bracket

I just finnished the same project on my '54 F100. Turned out great, but I purchased my mounting bracket from "Mid-Fifty's" for about $95.00.
I,m sorry I did'nt measure before install but the one I bought did line both the pitman arm shaft and the steering column very well. It took alot of guess work out for a little bit of money. Hope this helps.

Also used a "I-Did-It" tilt column with billet drop and swivel floor mount

good luck, Ed

Thumbs up

I made one from a pic. in the mag. I just sold it, I installed a Aerostar front end. I'll call the guy I sold it to to get the demintions. I know it was 1 1/2" wide X 2" on the upper & lower flanges, 1/4" thick, the angle & height I'm not sure, I set the box in for that. I do know you have to weld a piece for the side to bolt to the side of the frame to keep it from flexing (I learned the hard way). The pitman arms I cut in two and welded them to gather to make the one. Again I'll call him and respond back soon. And I may still have the pattern.
Scott

Here's an article about the conversion, if you haven't already come across it:

The bracket is easy to make, here's how it goes, I'll walk you through it. With the original steering in place mark the angle with a piece of tape, then remove the box. Measure the distance between the flanges of the frame....then add 1 3/4" to each end of that measurement. With the measurement cut a piece of 1/4" plate or strap 2" wide. Now measure in on each end 2"......I know you added only 1 3/4" but you have to allow for what they call set back and bend allowance...trust me. Then bend the piece on each end to a 45.....OPPOSITE OF EACH OTHER. Then with the new box in place fine tune the angles to the frame and mark the mounting holes for the box and frame, remember the box has to be snug up against the side of the frame for the pitman arm clearance. Then cut a triangle piece of 1/4" stock for the side support (to keep the bracket from flexing in the frame). this piece needs to cover about 3/4's of the angled area on the bottom side against the frame. Before you weld it up, you'll need to cut out some areas for the nuts to clear to mount the box. Is this as clear as mud? The pitman arm is easy just cut them both in half and weld them together. How easy can it be? I'm not sure how a 58's steering is set up, but if it's in the same configuration it should work the same. Let me know if I can help any more. Scott

It handles the same as before the conversion, the only thing is it's easier to turn. You still have the old suspention. You still have the road walk, the straight axle hop, and the over all rough ride. Now if you want it to have a smoooother ride and handle, you might try a diffrent front end, like I did. I went with the Aerostar. It took about 60 hours to do by myself in my garage, but well worth the time. The rack, and independent suspention is GREAT, handles, and a smooth ride. If your going to take the time to build the parts for the Toyota conversion, take a little more time and do the Aerostar. Take it from a man who's done both, it's well worth it. I payed 100.00 for the Aerostar subframe (complete with wheels, tires and swaybar),and I spent that for just the Toyota gear box, not including the materials for the brackets and time to figure it all out. Everything you need to know about installing the Aerostar in on this forum. Oh, I sold the axle, bracket, pitman arm, and box for 250.00, I made money on putting in the Aerostar front end. the Toyota is easyer but you'll like the Aerostar much better. Scott
