On my 99 sport, which is black of all colors, the clear coat has small little cracks in it, all over the truck. The worst part is the hood. After I wax it, you can really see them good, and I even use a buffer. I was told the clear is 'breaking up', and the clear will have to be re-sprayed.We keep it outside, but I keep it clean and polished as much as possible. Black is very hard to keep looking good. I could be out every day, and still get dust off it, even from just sitting. I use Meguires Gold Glass polish on it, man that work great!! I also have some Ford Silicone car polish I use, but the shine doesnt last too long. Just wondering if anyone else has paint-related issues like this.
Gday just saw your post and well I'm a spray painter and there could be 3 or more reasons why its cracking, 1: the colour (attracts lots of heat) 2: if it has had a respray they might have used cheap paint, if it hasn't then you got a bad batch of paint from the FMC (ford motor company) 3: Black is a bad colour to leave out side all the time, pretty much same as reason 1. If a car is left out side all the time black will go first, in your case 99 model I would say that is abit strange couse its no quite a vintage yet so I'm leaning towards bad batch of paint theory if it's original paint.
