Running Boards....bad design
I have a '99 Sport Explorer that has running boards. When we bought it, the running boards has a small amount of rust where the plastic ends are attatched. Since then I have had then blasted and re-painted once, only to have the same problem a year later. But now, the rust is really bad on the ends, and has made its way to underneath the plastic step panels that snap to the top. They look horrible, I guess every year, I will have to have them blasted and painted 
. Living in the snow belt of Indiana doesnt help,but why couldnt they just design a board that is a one peice unit,with a stick on type of grip where you step? 
Anyone else feel my pain on this?

Rusty Running Boards
Yup. they sure do rust. Mine started rusting on the passenger side before the first winter was even over in the same spot you described. I was thinking about fixing mine the way you did, but hearing you say that blasting and repainting them doesn't last at all makes me wonder if I'm going to bother. Maybe it makes more sense just to get some different ones that hold up better??? Any suggestions, anyone?
