I have a 94 kingcab 2x4 auto .I just started getting a vibration at 25-30 mph.I changed Ujoints, carrier, and looked over rear end ,and it's good. The truck has 150,000 miles on it.I was told to put synthetic tranny fluid in it. will this help? Tires& rims are new.I 'm lost
Where does the vibration feel like it's coming front? With that mileage, it could be something in the front end worn out. Think about taking it to a shop and having them check the entire suspension out for worn parts. It's also not a bad idea to change the tranny fluid and filter.
Thanks for your reply andym. It feels like it's coming from driver seat -back .It's like a tire is loose or the driveshaft is out of wack. But I am going to take it to a shop,I will change the fluid and screen first and see what happens. Thanks again
Were any of the U-joints bad when you changed them? And after re-installation, did you line up your yokes? The yokes should be directly in line w/eachother, as that is how they were balanced. Carrier bearings are a little tricky, & often over looked, too. Measure off of each side of yours towards the rear axle's rear u-joint mounting( plate , yoke whatever is there) and then from the carrier again to the leaf spring mounts, is everything symetrical? Should be. Hope that's all it takes!
I just bought a 93 with about 120000 ands it had that net little shake. It turned out to be the transmission. if you catch it early they can flush it nmfor about $100.. other wise if your like me it will run you about $1800.givenr
I jut bought a 93 and it was the transmission shaking. If you catch it early they can flush it for about $100. if not like me you will pay about$1.800 for a rebuild.
does it go away after it changes gears?
thanks guys,I did use a yellow grease penscil to mark the shaft before I started working on it.Idid not check the distance to see if they are the same.I will. The old Ujoints were dry but not loose. Thanks jamiesan.I just had gone to a " tranny guy" he said he doesn't think it's the tranny. But it wouldn't hurt to change the filter &fluid-about11-16 qrts, WOW.Thanks rgiven.P.S.It took me over half an hour to type this, I,m new too
I thought I had sent my message some place else. The reason I told you the trans is because mine did the same thing. I changed the u joints. Someone told that at one point ford used some kind of paper in the drive shaft to keep noise down and that could cause the problem and then a guy told me it was the torque converter in the trans and to unplug it. ( Don't do that ) Mine went out after I did that.
Hi, Mike L-I put the truck up on jack stands and took the tires off [put a lug nut back on each wheel to keep the drum on]and put it in gear and took it to 30 mph. It still was thier.rgiven I will not mess with the tranny, Iknow nothing about them & too much money to get fixed if I do. thanks for the warning.
