Adjusting shift points???

Hey, I need (would like) some advice...

To start with, I don't really know anything about Transmissions.

The Transmission in queation is a C6.

I put a B&M shift kit in to it, put the street and strip components in. It worked good for about a month, then crapped out.

It used to shift slow, and the B&M kit fix that, but it only lasted for a month.

Then it went back to shifting slow. In addition, reverse and drive would slip under load.

I had the thing rebuilt receiently... bigger torque converter, high performance clutches, and performance shift kit. It's awesome now! Spins the tires when it hits second. Has a good punch going from 2nd to drive as well.

Kickdown works good also.

My only issue now is...

Is there a way to adjust the shift points? I don't have a tach, but I have the 6000rpm rev limiter on the MSD box, and I'd like it to shift sooner than 6000rpms. Presently, it revs (seems like it's going to blow) hits the rev limiter then shifts. I'd like it to shift before hitting the rev limiter, say at 5500rpms.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

And remember, I don't know crap about transmissions. Someone mentioned there is a vacuum modulator that can be messed with. What about other linkage? Is anything else that is user adjustable?

Thanks in advance?

You ARE using Type F in it... right?

Was that one with replacement bands, or not? If you put in bands with it, they could have been bands to use Mercon fluid. Type F will tear 'em up.

Something else you can do is adjust the intermediate band. This should definately firm up the shifts if the band is loose, but figure out why it's wearing down first. Ask if you need instructions on how to do this.

I guess with my rambling, I wasn't very clear. Shifting is rock solid now, since the rebuild. I'm mainly concerned with moving the shift point. I'd like it to shift sooner (at a lower rpm) and I looking for information on how to accompolish this.

Thanks

If it is the full-throtle shift point that you will like to change, then adjust or possibly even remove the kickdown lever. I run my truck without the kickdown lever hooked up and it works much better, not all that shifting down every time I floor it. Less tranny shifting=longer tranny life. I wouldn't attempt removing the kickdown on a C4 because the system pressure is partially regulated by the position of the kickdown.

If it is the half-throttle shift points that need correcting, then this can be done at the vacuum modulator. Pull the rubber hose off the modulator and adjust the screw at that hose conection. Counter-clockwise turning will cause a sooner shift.

C6 shift points are easily adjusted. Pull the vacumn line off the modulator, if there is a screw inside the nipple you can adjust the modulator. Turn the screw in (clockwise) to shift later and out to shift earlier. If there is no screw, there is a rod behind the modulator. For earlier shifts shorten the rod. for later shifts make a new rod out of 1/8 welding rod a little longer. Longer rod later shifts shorter rod earlier shifts.
