When I start up my truck, the oil pressure seems to take a while to wake up and get moving. It rides at 30 at idol, but it doesn't get there for a couple of minutes.
I also hear a low thunking knock that sounds like a rod bearing untill the pressure rises to30, but then it goes away and stays away.
I'd be scared not to see oil pressur for a matter of seconds...minutes would make me real nervous.
I'm no oil expert. But you might drain it and fill it with something that willl flow well at startup. I run Castrol GTX 20w50, and I have pressure immediately. When cold it is real high 60-80 psi. When warm at idle it drops back down to below 20psi, but I believe that is typical.
My oil pressure is 50psi at startup then backs down to 40psi at 2000rpm. At hot idle, it's at 10 psi. I run 5w30 but will be going to something thicker next time around.
