Arrow Knocking around

When I start up my truck, the oil pressure seems to take a while to wake up and get moving. It rides at 30 at idol, but it doesn't get there for a couple of minutes.

I also hear a low thunking knock that sounds like a rod bearing untill the pressure rises to30, but then it goes away and stays away.

WHat could be causing the oil to be slow?

What weight oil are you running? Also what type of engine?

Just bought the truck, so not real sure when thee oil was changed. darker Honey colored oil that runs well, at a guess 5-30 or 5-40.

The motor is a 352, or should be.

I'd be scared not to see oil pressur for a matter of seconds...minutes would make me real nervous.

I'm no oil expert. But you might drain it and fill it with something that willl flow well at startup. I run Castrol GTX 20w50, and I have pressure immediately. When cold it is real high 60-80 psi. When warm at idle it drops back down to below 20psi, but I believe that is typical.

My oil pressure is 50psi at startup then backs down to 40psi at 2000rpm. At hot idle, it's at 10 psi. I run 5w30 but will be going to something thicker next time around.
