ive got a bronco2 with a 2.9 and it has a miss in all driving ranges.
i have replaced the plugs,wires,dist..cap and rotor and it still misses. It runs ok for the first 2 mins at start up then it starts stuttering .After it runs for awhile it smooths out then it starts missing at accelaration and starts to lack power.
Anyone have a clue ?? I dont..thankz
Next two places I'd check are fuel delivery and air intake. specifically:
fuel pressure, which can indicate problems with the fuel pump, filter, and pressure regulator. If the fuel filter is due to be changed, consider changing it.
oxygen sensor.
air filter.
air intake tubes and throttle body.
mass air flow sensor.
I ran the codes to find code 54 ACT sensor is open ?
OK what does that have to do with very poor performance??
Or is that just a small problem and the real beast lies somewhere else?
The ACT (air charge temperature) sensor tells the computer the temperature of the air/fuel mixture in the intake manifold. If you remember the ideal gas law (PV=nRT) from high school chemistry, temperature is an necessary part of knowing how much air is going in. If the computer doesn't accurately know this value, it can't calculate the proper amount of fuel to add to get the desired air/fuel mixture.
It may not be all of the problem, but I would think it's contributing.
Got an 85 Bronco II with a 2.8 liter. Its doing exactly the same thing. Have you found the culprit on yours yet?? I also changed out all the secondary ignition parts and it still does this?? I'm miffed at this point.
I've got a '84 Bronco II with a 2.8 V6 and was sputtering also. Noticed fluid dripping under engine while running , traced it to fuel pump leaking from fitting on pump where metal pipe going to carb is attached to.(presure side! At least I know my ignition doesn't have stray sparks!). Replaced pump and stuttering went away. I know you probably have fuel injection, but you may want to check out the fuel delivery system also.
