has anyone ever used those powered sub you can buy. you know the ones that come in an enclosement and built in amp, usually like a single 8" or 10". i am thinking of getting one and was wondering how well they peform. i'm just looking for good quality bass that hits good but not jaw shaking booms. if you have used one what brand and how did it perform?
I'm in the same boat, I want to hear a little bottom end but keep the audio stealthy in my bronco since I use a soft top for half the year, the Infinity Basslink gets strong reviews, the Kenwood does okay if your expectations aren't too high, and the Clarion has a very interesting design but I haven't seen a review and it has a relatively small amplifier. The other option for me is to build a extended center console with a down firing sub section.
Depending on your taste you can be incredibly impressed or horribly dissapointed by powered-enclosed subs. I personally am somewhat of an audiophile and they just dont sound good to me, I have however sold powered subs to customers and they have been happy. You will never get the same response of out a pre-powered and enclosed sub as you will out of a regular component subwoofer. My personal recommendation would be to get a pre-fabbed box that fit your car. JL has the stealth box which is what I would honestly recommend (they can be more pricey but JL subs just sound amazing, if you've ever heard one set up right you know what I mean), however MTX, and Q-logic make others that are supposedly pretty good. Your other option is to go to a local shop and have them build a box that fits hidden in your car, if you tell me the model and year I can probably help you out on finding exactly what you want.
I am using a mtx for a 150 or250 light duty extra cab in my crew cab. theres some bump and it does a great job filling out the lows but if you push the amp to hard it just causes the two 8"ers to cancel each outer out.
they do a great job for what I like but not if your looking for mind blowing bass
anyone heard of an enclosed sub to take the place of the middle seat of a superduty??? Its a box cut to the size of the seat, so all you do is slide the cover off of the seat, and slide it on the box, and it looks like the regular seat set up?? Sorry if this sounds confusing, but if someone knows what im talking about, theyll understand....If so, and info on where to buy, and how much?? I cant find them around here.
Personally, I recomend the component sub system, with seperate amp. The powered subs sound ok, they give enough bass to be heard, but it isn't the best quality out there, or power. But you also said you're not wanting jaw-knocking booms, so a powered sub might be great. The Infinity Basslink with 2 radiators and the one sub, sound good, and the radiators allow for expansed bass sound. Their Hz's get relatively low, and you might be able to feel a little bit from them. Hope this helps any.
