guys, does the factory install receiver hitch on the 03X 6.0 diesel can handle a 10,000 lbs. trailer with a H2 on it? manual say it will tow 12500 but i dont know if the hitch is rated that high. thanks...
I would say without a doubt that a 10K trailer with an H2 on it (what? like 7K+ lbs??) will greatly exceed not only the hitch but the GCWR of the Excursion.
I towed a 9000-lb boat and trailer to Baltimore last month with my dad's X. AND I pulled a 7500-lb Ford tractor and a 1600-lb trailer from Kentucky with a '99 F-350 dually with a factory hitch four years ago. Both were towed without any weight-distributing devices.
Hitches are grossly underrated to absolve the manufacturer of any liability.
I regularly tow a trailer of firewood that weighs in about 9500 using the factory hitch and no weight distributing hitch. If the load is balanced and you pay attention to the tongue weight you should have no problems. However, the longer the trailer, the more likely you are to have the trailer wander. You might think of putting a sway control bar on the the hitch.

An H2 has a curb weight about 6400 lbs, If your trailer and towing acces. weigh in 3600 lbs, you will be on the line of what the truck/hitch is rated for. Also take into consideration the stuff you pack into your EX. that includes passengers(even if the wife is tied to the top of the EX) There is safty margins built into the max GCWR, about 5%, just a guess.
