Has anyone seen the new Freestyle, and if so, what do you think. The pictures I've found don't look too bad. The dealer out the road has a SE model according to Ford website, so I may give it a look in the next day or two.
I'm not too sure about the CVT, and check out the final drive ratio, 5.54 in the AWD. The engine either screams, or the overdrive ratio must be some kind of high.
I just read an article on the vehicle. It was noted that the engine speed can remain constant under certain driving conditions (no, not just at cruise, but other driving conditions). What a concept, keep the engine speed right at the peak of the torque curve for in town driving when accelerating away from stop lights. This is just one that comes to mind.
I work for Ford, I believe you mean Freestar. Unless its a model I haven't seen yet. The Freestar is the Windstar's replacement. Very similar, with some improvements. They've been out for a while now, and I haven't seen to many In the shop, I take that as a sign that they're doing well!

No, the Freestyle is new for 05. It is Ford's entry into the crossover market. I saw it at the Philly Auto show. I sat in it, and actually spent a good deal of time talking with the Ford rep about it. My wife loved it and is seriously considering trading in her 02' Escape for one. It is pretty impressive. Very roomy, third rwo seating, all wheel drive, entertainment group with DVD package for rear seats. I would describe it as a cross between an Escort wagon and a Expedition.

Oh, yeah, I think I read about it. Sorry. I haven't heard anything about it here, what market is it going to be sold in? I guess I'll find out in a month or so when the 05's start to get here.
atccracing, where for Ford do you work? I work for Ford too, but I work in Building 1 on the Dearborn campus so we see them all the time! I keep parking next to them in the mornings! I saw one the other day and I thought it looked really, really nice... and I don't particularly like crossovers. In fact, up until the Freestyle, there wasn't one I liked at all. Maybe I'm biased...
I worked on that program and was just at the chicago asy plant where they're being built last friday. it looks like the escape, stretched and lowered to me. the sedan version, the 500, looks much better IMO.
True, the 500 is a very nice looking car, but for what it is, I think the Freestyle is a good looking vehicle. It has personality. And not a really strange one like that weird Scion thing... I'm pretty sure they're going to market the Freestyle toward the same crowd... wow, that little Scion thing is like a Tonka truck, only it's the one we used to bury in the sandbox...
Little motor and many speed or cvt tranny = wave of future, esp. since the rocket scientists in CA have mandated as much with the latest round of pollution regs. (subject to challenge) Having said that, CVT's work great and are mildly entertaining for the first few thousand miles.
i dont even count the scion in the same class as the freestyle. it's main competiton will be the pacifica, as far as NA vehicles go. Maybe the magnum too.
