Bronco Seats

Can anyone advise on good quality aftermarket front seats for a full size 1990 Bronco? I'm having a difficult time finding used original replacement seats for my truck and the ones I do find (salvage yards, etc.) are usually junk. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Maybe the guys in the Bronco forum can help you out. Good luck on your search.

Cobrajrb,
Are the Corbeau seats brackets a direct fit, or do they need modification? Thanks to all who replied.

yea had to toss the stock brackets and buy the custom ones made for the seats other than that the corbeau brackets fit perfectly. also for the passenger side seat theres a adapter that costs alot less than the bracket so it inables u to use the stock bracket, but the only thing is that the seat sits about 1/4 inch higher than the driver side. so i bought the bracket

I got some leather seat out of a 2000 mustang. Had to do some customizing but they look great now! Still have the pic of the bench in my gallery, I will get some of the new seats soon.

Another thought on seats

I put Explorer seats in my Bronco a couple of years ago.
This is a compilation of some posts I did on the subject-

Explorer seats were pretty straightforward. Pulled the Bronco seats and mounts, used one of the Bronco holes for the Explorer front mounts, and lined up and drilled the rest of the holes. Couple of things are REAL important - you need to bend the front of the Explorer mounts down to match the angle of the Bronco floor pan, and the Bronco needs to be sitting level side to side, That lets you shim up the seat mounts level so there’s no binding on the rails. Then its just 3/8" bolts, nylocks, and fender washers to finish it up. I'm designing some aluminum rails to replace the factory mounts - I'll post photos when I get them done

Check out one of the other replies for installation details on the seats - pretty straight forward. The seats were $250.00 for the pair. I did get another set of switches for both sides - the spares have been a lifesaver. Make sure the electrics and the air pumps for the lumbar and bolsters work. I made up a set of leads and just checked them off my battery there in the parking lot.

Anyway, you're right re: the bolt holes. A couple of things to keep in mind if you want to install Explorer seats. You can either enlarge the front holes on the bracket, or use one of the Bronco holes for the front and drill a new on for the Explorer seat (there's lots of room under the Bronco to work). You will have to drill new holes for the rear's - no way to make it work with the Bronco mounts - I filled the original holes with silicon to keep any moisture out. You will also have to bend the front of the Explorer brackets down a bit to match up with the floor angle on the Bronco. You may also have to shim up one side or the other as the floorboards slope a bit on the Bronco and not on the Explorer.

Keep in mind one other option - if the seat mounts in your Bronco are still good, don't forget that you can unbolt the seat and mount another one to the mounts - regular Explorer seats (with or without power) will bolt up if you drill a couple of new holes

Hope this helps

Thanks to all of those who replied, as I appreciate the input and advise. I'll start looking for a decent set of Explorer seats. Maybe they're easier to find than the Bronco seats.

Seen some leather ones out of 95 -96 bronco's on ebay from time to time. Might want to keep an eye out there for some deals.

I just bought a set of seats from www.airdynamicracing.com. I live in that area so I went and looked at the seats and tried them out. The AXE II seats felt pretty hefty, and the leather seats were very nice. I bought the AXE I seats since they were a little wider in the hips, and my wife, who came along and sat in them, liked that they were a little wider. The AXE II have more side restraint to hold you in. I would have got the leater seats, especially for the price, but my wife didn't like the spider. Anyways, they are way cheaper than most seats. They also fully recline. But you do get what you pay for...

A couple more notes. I fitted all-power cloth Explorer seats in my Bronco and love them. Our local police chief was looking for some seats to put in his truck and tried my setup. It was a flat NO WAY. I weigh about 160 pounds and he's pushing 300. He said the seats were too confining and uncomfortable to him. Original style Bronco or F150 captain's chairs suited him much better.
My wife's Explorer has leather seats. We've found that it's a bit easier to climb into her vehicle because you can "slide" into the seats. The bad side is that she likes to use seatcovers and we have a heck of a time keeping them secured. Seatcovers on the Bronco's cloth seats tend to stay put a lot better.
The leather seats in my Mustang are not a problem covered or not. I suppose because I don't have to climb UP into them.

I've found a shop locally who would re-do my 1990 XLT seats (fact. lt. brn.) with some foam work on the drivers side for about 250 each. Since I keep my bronco as orig. as possible, this is the way I'll go. He said he could look up correct material from his industry catalogs ( he mentioned the name, but I can't remember it ). If you want the name, just drop a note.
Also, if he has access, I'm sure some of the older upholstery guys in your area can find this as well.
