Power Mirror Swap

Hey All!

I would first like to say what a valuable forum this is, truly a great resource tool. I decided to purchase some after market power mirrors that are the exact replica of the Ford Towing power-heated telescopic mirrors. I have a 2000 X and proceeded with the swap thanks to all the great helpful hints on this site.

I have run into a slight problem though.............the mirror I have received came with the correct adapter with all 5 wires going to the plug. (3 colored and 2 blk) The mirror that is being replaced has 5 wires as well, but boken into 1 white plug with the 3 colored wires, and 1 black plug with 2 black wires. I am assuming this is for the defroster. I hooked up the wires figuring I can do without the defroster, but everytime I activated the mirror switch, I blow a fuse. I then separated the 5 wires into 2 bundles (3 colored together and 2 blk together) so I could plug into the separate defroster outlet, but I still blow fuses when I try to use the mirror adjuster. Help! thanks in advance.

Not sure if you have the plugs on still or not, but I would hook it wire to wire with crimp on splice connnectors, same that is used in auto radios when aftermarket is added. If color to color still blows, you could try other combos or admit you might have been hosed. May be able to ask a friendly mech at ford. I have been transferred to the mechanics directly twice on questions with excellent accurate answers each time.

Good Luck

Update:

used a light tester to determine what wires actually hook up to what connectors. Tested all the wires from the connectors and the adapter plug. Connections all look to be dead-nuts on. Now instead of the fuse frying, I only get up/out operation of the power mirrors when using the adjustment switch. I verified the wires and have come to the conclusion that it must be the mirrors? Oh well, calling on monday to see if I can return them...............read the forums under mirrors, and I guess I should have paid the extra 125 for genuine ford parts. Chalk up another lesson that cost some cash learned.
