Bigblock headers for a Highboy
I recently did a engine, trans, Tcase swap in my 76 F-250 4x4 Highboy. Originally it had a 390 4v, np435 4spd, with stock divorced np205.
In went a 70 429, C6auto, with a married np205. Trans, T-case, and x-member were from a 79 bronco, which fit with few mods. It seemed to be close to what the 79 F-250 4x4's used. I used the stock 390 engine mounts, redrilling the bottom hole to match the 429 block-as someone mentioned in this sight. The mounts fit, but don't bottom into the engine mount pedestals, but bolt up ok, with smaller diameter washers, which cover the teardrop mount holes adequately.
Now, my question is, what Headers could fit this, I know L&L have swap headers for very high costs, but may only work with their engine mounts! I'm thinkin that 460 headers for early 80's trucks may work, cause the engines sit lower in the frame, which should mean the headers hug the block more closely.
I would like to keep the exhaust in frame, vrs L&L outside frame headers option, and of course keep the cost down.
Btw, I prefer a juicebox over a gear slammer with 4.10's any day, in heavy traffic especially-don't row the boat, drive it! The 429 used to be in an 88 F-150 4x4, which had headers from a 77 2wd! The blue tip wrench and hammer made it fit, but also condemned the 88.
curious as hell
