Cooling system overhaul

94 F150 Automatic transmission 2wd

when i brought my truck into the for a fuse problem, they told me i needed a new serpentine belt, transmission flush, radiator flush and new radiator hoses, i told em just to fix the fuses and ill take care of the rest some other time.

now lets tackle the cooling side first.

now heres the masterplan.

replace radiator, replace radiator hoses, go from clutch fan to an electric fan.

i also have a transmission cooler i beleive (smaller radiator mounted on the main radiator)that came with the truck when i got it used. i may or may not change that one depending if there a better on out there, and if its worth it.

so here are my main questions.

is this a do it yourself job? im a newb to truck repair but im eager to learn i wanna do as much my self as possible. how difficult a task would this be.

im guessin it would be drain radiator, remove hoses, remove clutch fan, mounth electric to new raditor, mount new hoses, mounth new radiator, fill radiator and go on my merry way.

wht about the transmission cooler? its hooked up the the transmission some how or another i assume, how much would that complicate things?

lastley, whats a good radiator out there? ive heard of 3 core, 4 core, aluminum.

what about transmission coolers? what good out there?

since im in there id probably change the serpentine belt as well. and if i gotta mess with the tranmission lines with the transmission cooler i might as well flush the system. which would further make this a long ordeal (which im willing to undertake)

i wanna do it myself, but i gotta weight the costs and the possibilty of making my truck explode and leaving a massive crater in my drive way.

anybodies $0.02 would be apprecieted. thanks to all of you who made it to the end of this post hehe

Go for it! Get a Haynes manual for reference and order of dis and re assembly. Get the radiator that suits you or your wallet. Ditto on the tranny cooler. Just don't get a radiator that is smaller than what is on the truck now. The electric fan should come with some clear directions for installation. You should be able to handle the tasks you have described. Sounds like a good way to kill a weekend!
