I have a 99 SD with 4.56 gears and an Auburn. We also have a 2000 Excursion. We now have 2 kids. The SD being extended cab is not gettin it anymore.
I have gears and other dodads I want to switch to the X. I can't see a reason why the rearends can't be swapped. I would like to know of any posiable issues.
I'm just going to swap gears on the front. I have an early 99 SD. I know lots of stuff changed up front. I hope they'll swap. If anything I should check, I'd like to hear it.
The rear swap will come with a lift for the X. From what I can see I need a good 6" lift to clear my 35" tires. I have 2 sets of tires. One set will go with the still lifted SD. Just not with my gears.
The SD has different brakes hub\bearings and track bar bolts, on the front. Their maybe other things too.
I do plan a lift for the front. That's where the 6"-7" is needed for 35" tires. From what I see there would be 1" or less lift needed for rear. Excursions need more lift than SD's for the smae tire size.
When I said 1" or less, that was to mean, the rear would need 1" or less, less lift than the front. So if 6" in front, 5" or 6" in rear, on excursions.

I can see the track bar being placed differently. But they wear the same D50 front axle. Why would the brake and hubs be different, with the exception that the Excursion came standard with ESOF?

My SD is a pre 03-99 build. So all that stuff is different. It was a mid-model type change. A real pain too. I know the hub\bearing and the front rotors are different. The aftermarket parts makers don't make replacement parts for my SD. That leaves me with paying at the local Stealership for parts.
