Just received my report from Blackstone. First oil change every thing looks fine (for break in oil) except the amount of fuel in oil. 3%. Has anyone else had this much fuel in oil without any problems. The report said it was probably from blow by. I'm hoping that it is not an injector problem. 2004 f350 6.0 cc LB 4X4. built 06/21/04. 4800 miles so far. No problems.
I've only idled for an extended period once or twice. 30, 45 min. As far as mileage goes: best 15.76, worst 11.19. Average 13.91. No trends in either direction. That is with no towing, just myself most of the time. I must say I was expecting better mileage. As far as problems go, I think I experienced what they call dead pedal once or twice. The flashes are also up to date. They checked when I brought it in for oil change. Also when I disconnected the EGR the check engine light came on and would not go off. I had to disconnect batteries to clear. Other than that the truck has been great. It is fast, rides great and is comfortable.
I idle ALL the time (remote starter and HOT Texus )
and the lab reports in my gallery still show good....
course I didn't start sampling until about 25K or so to let it break in....
(and still got some break in counts )
Ford won't consider fuel in oil a problem until over 6%. It is certainly something to watch if it is over 2%. Since the engine is new, I wouldn't worry about it yet unless there are other symptoms.
Yeah its breakin in dont worry about it. The new rings are still seating and blowby and a little leakage is no big deal. It will take 20k-30k miles to fully break it in. Diesls take a ver ylong time to break in, not sure why. Make sure you dont idle it a lot for the break in period and vary those RPM's a lot. Try not to redline it but you do want to get the revs up there quite a bit but just for a second or so. Always try to keep the engine under load and the revs up and down. If your crusin down the interstate try to go from say 60-70 occasionally. Its a pain I know but you will be mad if your engine is imporperly broken in and you have constant blow by and bad mileage and poor power forever.
Excuse me, if I ask questions again or propose threories.
Fuel dilution of the crankcase oil is not a good thing!
The effects of fuel in the crankcase oil is very negative as far as the dilution of lubricity of any oil, and regardless of the source of entry of fuel into crankcase lubricants as a dilution source ....this is not a good thing!
The only worse thing is water in the crankcase oil.
