I have a 1997 F-350 that is running really rich. How do I fix a rich condition on my 460. I am getting about 3 to 5 miles per gallon. It's killing me on gas right now. Is this something that is regulated through the computer? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

How many O2 sensor's are there? I just bought the Truck and the place that I bought it from just replaced the O2 Sensor's, due to a check engine light that kept coming on. Maybe Air Filter? Thanks to all who has replied.
Make sure they actually replaced the O2 sensors and didn't just install an O2 sensor sidestepper (a resistor that fools the ECU into thinking that the sensor is really there).
Try a simple computer reset before doing anything else. Disconnect the neg batt terminal for at least 5 min, and then step on the brake pedal for at least 1 min. That should reset the computer. Some ECUs hang on to life a little harder, and it might be necessary to disconnect the batt cable overnight for a complete reset.
Or you could just get one of the generic electronic scan tools and do it in a couple of minutes.
One more thing that can cause a fuel injection motor to run rich is the water temp sensor or the actual t’stat. If the motor is running cold or the ECU thinks it is then it will keep the fuel mixture rich because it is keeping it in the warm up mode.
But bad mileage can be from many different problems including running lean. Best to fully check and find out what is not working properly.
