I need some help...... I tore my dash apart trying to figure out why my Gas and Oil Temp gauges don't work. My Temperature gauges was bent slightly and rubbing against backing. Got it straightened out, thought I has it fixed. But that didn't do it. Looked at the back of the Gauge panel and everything looked good. Checked for power and power is coming into panel. I also checked the fuse box and power is good there. What the hell am I doing wrong. Do I need a new instrument panel or is there something else I can do? If I do need a new instrument panel, where do I get it? Any info would help....... P.S this is on a 77 F250 4x4 400 and C6
None of the guages work? The small metal box on the back of the guage cluster is a voltage regulator. If that goes bad, it affects all the guages causing them to all read incorrectly or not at all.
Take the wire from the temp sender and ground it - with key on, the guage should peg all the way showing the guage and wiring are good. What does yours do?
Vodoo; What Marty was saying is that grounding the sender wire and not getting a reaction fromk the gauge indicates that the gauge voltage regulator is probably defective. They are inexpensive and its probably a good idea to just replace it. If the regulator don't fix it, let us know.
