Alright, first post so don't beat me up too bad. Been doing a bunch of surfing and reading but I can't find a good definitive site that gives me all the details/options/configurations/etc of the '65-'66 F1/2/3XX pickups. I can find many bits and pieces, but no comprehensive site yet. If you know, thanks for the references.
Not an owner yet, but I've pretty much made up my mind on a '66 F100 as I've admired that style for a long time - will sell my comfey 2004 full size and get back into a vehicle I can tear apart and fix myself (and no outrageous monthly payments and depreciating value :-) Guess I should post this in the Classified Wanted forum, but I found a nice looking '66 F100 in Pacific NW, but it will cost a fortune to get it to NC where I live. So, feel free to PM me if you have any leads on a '66 F100 V8, auto, turquois or blue + white (AC would be nice!) with no rust.
David, You are just down the road from me. I just moved from Durham to Creedmoor.
Welcome to FTE the most comprensive Ford truck site on the WWW. If you have questions we've got answers. There are no chevy guys here so you can get the truth.
A northwest or southwest truck would be nice, and shipping can be found for $1000.00 or less in many cases. Don't get rid of the 04 yet. You will probably want to do work on the 66 and will need something to run parts on. My oldest son has a 04 F150 and as much as I love my 66s that 04 is sweet.
If I can help you in any way let me know I'd love to.
Those trucks are out there, you just have to look. Sorry, I stole one of your NC trucks and brought it up north ('65 Custom Cab, but red/white 3 speed).
I found mine on www.collectorcartraderonline.com which I checked with great frequency. The more specific the truck you want, the longer you will probably have to search. I wanted a shortbed, but settled for a longbed as it was too good of a truck to pass up. BTW, aside from the grille, 65 and 66 are identical (and you can always change grilles to suit your taste).
John - thanks for the welcome, neighbor! Looking forward to getting the hands dirty again versus just changing oil and air filters...
Still searching for good reference sites/material to describe the feature and option differences between the different model years 61-66. Just found out there is a VIN code difference for Custom Cab's, but I still don't know what the interior option differences are? My '65 Mustang had factory 2 speed wipers, washer, disc brakes and AC. Were these available from Ford on the 65-66 F100's? I believe the guy told me who has a truck in the NW that it was a Camper Special - I still can't find what that totally entailed? How can I verify by pictures or by asking questions? One post referenced they all came with a front sway bar - Is that true? Was that the only option that provided a sway bar? See, I need stuff like that.
I dont mean to jump on the back of anyones email but I am from Gastonia NC and would love to meet other ford truck guys in my area of the country. I have a '66 f250 that I am working on now. Just got back from NY with a bed for it. Its a 3/4 ton dually but I only run 2 tires in the rear and am going to replace the flat bed with a proper long bed.
hope to hear from you
