where to find coolant temperature sensor
where can i find this sensor on my 99 f250 5.4L. it was running weird and i took it to autozone and they ran a check. all they told me was i needed this sensor and that it was hard to get to (what a lot of help that was). i have no clue where to find this so a specific place should and would be very helpful.

i have not looked for this on my 99 f250,but it is usually screwed into a water passage on the top of the head. since they told you it was a pain to get to i would guess it is back under the firewall,on the back of the heads. good luck. one way to find it might be to buy one as long as you need it ,and start looking around under there.

Just to let you know,there are two temp.sensors on the 5.4L. One is a cylinder head temp. sensor under the intake front driver side. Follow the wire bundle that goes behind the thermostat housing. With a little light you can see it sticking up under there. As far as a coolant temp sensor, should be on side of the block somewhere. Maybe someone else could specify where.

The coolant temp sensor is right next (or there abouts) to the upper radiator hose at the engine and is extremely easy to get to. More than likely if the computer has a code for a temp sensor it is referring to the cylinder head temp sensor. I haven't had my coolant temp sensor pluggged in for a couple of years now because I decided to use that port for a real temperature gauge and I have yet to get a check engine light for it.
