I have a 85 ranger with a 2.8 V6 that needs a completly new exhaust system. I have always had trouble understanding exhausts, so could anyone tell me what the best setup would be (single, dual?, pipe size?, muffler? ect...) Im looking for that powerful deep sound, as well as a lot of low end torque. Thanks

did ford make a 2.8 v6? i always thought it was a 3.8...i could be wrong. I hate to be the person to break this to you, but your not gonna get a 2.8 to have a "deep powerful deep sound". you could add a flowmaster muffler(2 or 3 chamber). that would give you a little more power but lts gonna sound like crap. ever hear those fart-piped cars running down the road with a big wing (that doesnt do a thing to help it go faster)? that'll give you an idea of what itll sound like. if it was mine, i would straight pipe it (run duals without cats or mufflers). im sorry to be the one who lets you down. you could always go with a stock system.
a friend of mine has a v6 in his f150. not sure which v6 though. anyway he straight piped it and put on some tips and it sounds damn good for a v6. it was one of those wow moments. he left the stock cats on as well.
GhostRyder, since you need a complete new system, I'd shop around at the local exhaust shops for a dual system. They should be able to fab one up for a reasonable price. Keep the pipe size small to retain the low end torque; I'd sugest no larger than 2" pipes for the 2.8L.
As for mufflers, take your pick. Some people like glasspacks, some don't. Turbos are cheap and sound good. Then there are the chambered types like Flowmaster, MAC, and Hooker. Any of these will give a performance increase over the stock system.
thanks. I'm kinda thinkin of swaping in a 302. So I'm just gonna hold off on the exhaust for now. But thanks again for the help
i did just that...swapped in a 302!...but before i made that commitment, i had a dual exhaust on my broncoII...no cats, and i went with dyno max mufflers...honestly it sounded sweet!
