The GT 40 is my favorite car of ALL TIME! I just about peed my pants when I saw they were making a new one! I read in a magazine the price is to be 100k. Is that still correct? If so, I will have to choose my color VERY carefully!:-(
I suspect that one could not be had for $100k. There will only be about 100 made the first year and I suspect there will be a huge premium, and that they will only go to those folks that know folks. I'm afraid that even if we could beg, borrow and steal to get the money, we'd probably be out of luck. I would not be surprised to see these go for $500,000.
If they actually get to Viper like production numbers in 2004-2005 maybe one could be had for about $100k.
At least Ford will have something out there we can boast about.
If I have one regret it is that I did'nt buy a GT-40 that was for sale by a guy when I was in germany in the early 80's but then I was young, dumb and full of ...well a teenager with a paycheck is a dangerous thing I think he wanted a few thousand for it god I remember those rear tires HUGE mean lookin like it wanted to eat every car on the road, we all make mistakes
The GT40 has always been one of my dream cars. I was about 14 years old when they were first introduced, and I've been hooked since.
I'm glad to see the Ford is finally coming out with a sports car in the 'Vette/Viper tridition. The problem is the price. Even though I love the GT40, I could part with $40,000 for a Z06 much easier than $100,000+ for the GT40. Now if they could find a way to get the price down to say, $50,000, well then we're in the ball park!
ok i havent really heard that much about the gt-40, all i know is i want one bad. why would the price be so high on them though, like i said i dont know that much about them, just wonderin.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 12-Mar-02 AT 08:27 PM (EST)]The price!
probably because they will hand make it as opposed to mass production.
The original came with a Mid-engine platform, running a 351C(I think).
It's gets its name from being 40" high.
I'll see if I can find an article for you to read.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 12-Mar-02 AT 08:52 PM (EST)]Dennis, the GT-40 didn't have a Cleveland in it. It came with 289, 302, 351W. Remember, the GT-40 was originally first raced around '65 or so. Anybody who wants to know a little info about the GT-40 can check out this site: http://www.me.mtu.edu/~prater/GT40/GT40.html
Think you'll have to paste the URL into your browser to get there.

And everyone thought (as i read) that production chances were very slim. so happy that they decided to make it. I think that the response to it at the auto shows was so over whellming that they had to. Thumbs up to Ford.
