I seem to get heat out of my vents all the time. No matter what the switch is set on. Pretty sure there is no freon in ac since it blows hot, but it does this on the vent position too. Could this be a blend door problem? If so, how to fix? thanks, Jordan P.S. 98 4.6 ext cab 4x4
everything is ok with the ****. When I turn the **** with the switch (key) off it makes a noise like a air releasing. Is this normal. Should it do this with the key off?
Fords flow coolant through the heater cores all the time on most trucks. To turn off the heater, the blend door is drawn shut over the heater core. My bet is you have a broken blend door, something fell in there and is blocking it. Otherwise, you might have a bad actuator (electric motor, on the box) or a bad resistor (thing on the back of the ****). It's pretty nasty with these, because some doors are vacuum and others are electric. Temp control is electric, while Floor/Panel/Defrost doors are vacuum. I'd bet on temp control door thing.
I had this problem on my 2002 7700 and it was the blend door actuator, which is an electric motor. It is not tough to fix. A broken blend door on the other hand, which can cause the same symptom, is a bear to fix. If you can get in there to visually inspect your blend door, or get your hand in there to feel if it is broken, it may give you the choices. Hope for an actuator, which is mounted above the blend door.
If you are willing to take the chance that it is the actuator, then just the below stuff, but if this ain't it, then you may not be able to return the actuator, as it is an electronic component. If it is the blend door, it's a big job.
For Blend door Actuator:
-Remove Floor duct panel
-Remove Passenger side dash brace retaining nut and bolt and remove brace
-Remove drivers side brace lower nut and position brace aside
-Remove three bolts and position module aside
-Remove the two floor duct screws
-RemoveFloor Duct
-Rotate the vacuum control motor to disconnect the controlmotor rod from the panel/floor door
-Remove the panel/floor door motor
-Disconnect the vacuum line connector
-Remove the screws
-Slide the rod out of the door and remove the panel/floor door
-Detach the connector
-Remove the retaining screws
-Pull down and release the actuator shaft and remove the electronic blend door actuator
reverse to install.
This is as far as I got, because the actuator fixed my problem. I did read though, here on the forum, so it will be searchable under blend door probably, that the whole dash has to come out to replace/repair a broken blend door.
