Heat your skin with warm to hot water,

Shave after dipping the razor or under running COLD water.

Try *Skin Bracer* After shave,it reduces razor burn if you even have after the previous ways to avoid it.

I dont have much facial hair just the chin, upper lip and neck. I always shave in the shower and it really helped my razor burn. I dont even use any creams or anything, just water. If I try to shave any other way, I get those lil pimple things and a red neck itchy neck. I shave against the grain after shaving with it and it never bothers me. Although I HATE shaving altogether, it hasnt been near as bad since I started doing it after being in the shower for awhile.

Hey Mil1ion, why cold water on the razor?

Here's what you do. You get a towel wet, place it in the microwave for a few to get it real hot. Then you carefully take the towel out and wrap your face with it CAREFULLY. Sit back (or stand) and allow the towel to do its thing, (a nice cigar poking through the towel may help also). Remove towel and apply a gel shave cream and have at it. This is the way i remember getting a shave years ago at the barber and i had little problem with razor burn. ahhh thoses were the days..........

My only guess would be hot water would make the steel blades expand a little, which might take just a little bit of the sharpness off the cutting edge. Just a wild guess though...don't pay attention to me.

Cold Water on Razor instead of Hot water will not chance warping the blade.

The cold water also closes the pores of the skin, meaning less aggravation by not getting razor burn.

I shave after the shower.....with that 3 bladed excel thingie......aloe stuff shaving gel.
If you skin is real sensitive.....try shaving with just the regular Aloe Vera Gel
Works great for me if I get myself sunburned.....shaving and not.

How long have you been shaving for?

When I started shaving, I got razor burn all the time, but that went away after a few months. I don't get it any more.

Also, I don't have a pre-determined shaving routine. Whatever happens to be easiest at the time. Sometimes pre-shower, sometimes post-shower. Sometimes every day, sometimes once every two weeks.

Come to think of it, when I started shaving, I used Gillette Sensor blades. Then I switched to Sensor Excel blades, and the burn stopped. Now, I use a generic triple blade with a lubricating strip and "rubber puller strip" similar to the Excel blade. Try that out. And for the cream, try Belvedere International Short Cuts, "Buff Head and Face Shave."

I have acne..varying from light to moderate (Stress times =( ), and I know that shaving stinks. It's mostly on my neck, too. Maybe I'll have to try the shower thing.

I've already found the wonder that is female aftershave and female shave gels. I don't know who Gilette doesn't throw this in their shaving gels. I'd like to find some way to shave that didn't aggravate my skin, you know.

When you say with the grain you mean down, right? And against being that you are shaving up? I shave down first...then finish up by going up to catch all that the razor misses going down. Course going against I have to be REALLY careful on my neck if I've been stressing on anything or else I'll cut.

Have you tried Aramis Maximum Comfort Shaving Cream yet? You can find it in department stores in the mens fragrance section. It temporarily numbs your face (it has benzocaine in it) and you'll get a good shave and no razor burn. It is expensive, but you only use a small amount.
