I have purchased an electric brake controller and pigtail and have the tow package installed on my 04 F150 but cannot find the wiring under the dash to plug the pigtail into, can anyone help? I have searched from drivers side door to transmission tunnel and have had no luck. I was told that on some F150s it is tucked into the trans tunnel but could not find it there either.
Any help locating this plug will be greatly appreciated.
In your glovebox or map pockets there should be a baggy with the factory supplies pigtail. This will map out the plug-ins and such. From what I remember, the plug-in is below the tilt wheel. There is also an extra resister in the packet from Ford. Something to do with charging you trailer battery if equiped.
the plug you are looking for is under the steering wheel panel
..and it's wrapped or strapped to some of the framework under there. When you remove the dash panel, and you are looking at the steering wheel, it will be on your right side just to the right of the right opening edge. Good luck!
I found the factory connector just to the right of the steering wheel. Under the dash. I didn't have to remove anything. It was a tan-ish color. Just get down under there and take a look. It was behind another, smaller connector.
On the left side of the steering wheel is a steel bracket to mount the brake controller on. Very slick. It took all of 10 minutes to hook it all up. I bought a progidy brake controller with a Ford wiring harness. It plugged into the truck and then plugged into the controller. Did not need the factory supplied in the glove box wiring at all.
Cheers,
Dan
