Hello my Ford guru's. Can anyone tell me which Pertronix I need...I.E. the Pertronix part number. I have a 1965 F250 with a 352. Vacuum advance distributor. Thanks.
1281 is the correct part #. I have it. I just don't have any info on how to intstall it. How should I wire the pertronix with the flamethrower coil?
Thanks.
Patrick
I have a f-100 with 352 and have put the Pertronix, coil and new plug wires.
I know there is a "pink" resister wire coming from the ignition that you need to disconnect so you get the full 12 volts rather than 6. And I believe one of the new wires connects in it's place. But I just don't remember everything.
Have you looked on the slick60's site? I am pretty sure when I went to do mine, that's where I got the info.
Many people RAVE about how their trucks run after doing this swap. Personally my truck ran good before and ran about the same after. I always heard your truck should start easier/faster too, but mine actually started faster BEFORE the swap.
Just get a little flashlight and get under the dash and find out if the pink wire is still present and intact. There is a short pigtail from the ignition switch, leading to a bullet connector, at least in a 65. From the bullet connector to the firewall will run the pink wire.
The easiest and non-destructive way to bypass it, is to get one of those tap-in connectors that snap over an existing wire and attach another wire to it, without cutting the existing wire. You can get them eveywhere. Now, attach a new wire to the pink wire as absolutely close to the firewall, under the dash, as you can get it. Run the new wire back to the bullet connector where the pink wire started. Put a new connector on the end of the new wire. Disconnect the pink wire and connect the new wire. Fasten up the pink wire so it doesn't dangle down.
Presto. Pink wire is still intact, so that if you or someone else decides to reverse the process, you can do so.
Now, you can attach the main hot wire to the hot lead of the new Flamethrower coil. Then jump over from there to the hot wire into the pertronix.
Pertronix instructions are notoriously bad, in spite of a great product.
kwanderi-you DO NOT want to use a scotchlock on the resistor wire, personally I refuse to use them at all. The resistor wire is marked "do not cut or splice", any connection to it will cause exccessive heat at that point possibly leading to connection failure.
