Hi all, I've 97 F150 4.2 V6 Supercab, I'm not sure who's fault was it, starting from L.A I put a Gumout Fuel Injector Cleaner and a Full of Super unleaded. after i drove over 150 miles coming back home, "Check Engine light on" Truck was fine no problem at all, So the next day i when to Autozone to rent the Readers code. Plug Reader and i got "P1131 Manfacturer Control Fuel Air Metering" and I don't have any clue where start, Any help will be much appreciated.
A P1131 means that the truck's computer (PCM) thinks the engine is running too lean and has richened up the air/fuel mixture as much as it can to try to compensate for it.
Checking for vacuum leaks would be a good place to start. How old is your fuel filter? Ever cleaned the MAF sensor? How old are your spark plugs?
Hi, Thank for replying to my post! Well it's been over 50,000 miles since dealer replaced my Fuel Filter, Maf sensor and spark plugs still original never been touch. I guess these will be week-end project for me, Ok one more thing need a book to start, I'm open for any suggestions and guidance..thank you again.
A shop manual would be a good idea but if you look in the Frequently Asked Questions at the top of this forum and do some snooping around in here you'll probably find all the info you need to do the work.
Good luck, have fun and let us know how it goes
