78 Fuel Pump Problem
My manual said to make sure the bracket (arm) went over a particular spot when installing and it seemed to only go in one way, that there wasn't any other way that it could possibly go and everything line up. Got everything put back together, but now I have gas pouring out at the carb, over-flowing onto my engine. Is there a trick I couldn't find in getting the arm back in, or have I created another problem or found an old one even?
If the fuel pump is pumping, you installed it correctly. Like 77460f150 stated, stuck needles are a common problem with carbs especially if the vehicle has been sitting for some time. You may wish to try tapping on the carb near the inlet tube first, use the handle of a screwdriver and tap lightly. If this doesn't free it up, remove the screws on the upper plate of the carb and verify that the float and needle valve work properly. This can be done without removing the carb, but be especially careful that you don't drop a screws down the intake!
Best of luck,
