i have a 88 ranger and its 4wheel drive and i was goin to rip the body off and pull the frame in the shed this winter put a 302 or a 351w in it what ever i may have just laying around at the time
then after i figure the moter and tranny custom izing done i have a 79 pinto i was going to put on the truck frame and take to mud boggs around here , becouse you normally dont see a v8 ranger or v8 pinto much less a 4x4 v8 pinto
i was wondering how hard will this be and what all will i absollutly have to buy i
i could make moter mounts and such like the oil pan will i need a single hump or double hump pan if single will it have to be front or back; will i need an oil filter relocator ;
both were headed to the junk yard so i figured i would try something that i
had never done
what would you guys call this thing its a general lee orange pinto (when its done i may even paint it like the general )
There was a fellow here who put a 302 into a Ranger, had it all jacked up...real pretty truck. His main complaint was that the Ranger drivetrain didn't hold up well to the torque of the V8 and he was continually replacing tranny, driveshafts, rear differential. Just enough to drive him to finally put it back together and sell it. I haven't seen the truck around here for a long time, so I don't know if its out of state or outta luck.
thanks guy for the replies i will look into them any other info you come across will help
i didnt know that it had been done befor but i figured it had just id never seen it done
i talked to the kid who used to own the car today he said it would never run again 4cyl. or 4x4 i backed it off the trailer today he thought it was blown up (no it wasnt but close)
i also have a 4speed tranny and transfer case out of a half ton i want the four speed in it but i dont have the fly wheel clutch or bell housing for it
and auto would be easyer for me to make fit what tranny could i put the t-case on c-6 c-4 aod (had it for a year or so i was goin to turn a half ton into a 4x4 but it also never got done or even started)
Sweet idea dude! I had the same with like a ranger platform and an 80's foxbody thunderbird. I'll make a gallery with the things I have seen! My ultimate would be a mid 70's caddy with a full size 4x4 frame, run 38's and paint the thing pink! I'd be a muddin pimp!
Can't confirm this, but I've been told that the Pinto unibody and early, Pre-77 broncos share the same wheelbase and the pinto body will just sit right on the old bronco frame, seems to me that would be the best way to go especially if you used an automatic Transmission.
