trans for 289

I am gonna have it in a ranger, I am rebuilding this thing to how I wanted it when I got it. (Ford forgot to put in a couple of extra cylinders) so I am planning a 289 w/ manual. I probably won't be beatin the hell out of it. Except if a immature rice boy who thinks cause his muffler makes his car sound like a chainsaw his car is fast pulls up.(I REALLY hate that!) Problably gonna take it to car shows. That type of stuff. I consider this truck retired so I cannot beat on it like I used to.

Excellent choice. I had a wide ratio top loader in my Mustang. Worked well, but that 5th gear would have been nice.

What year is your 289? The earlier models had the smaller bell-housing bolt pattern. After 65-66 (I think) they went to the larger pattern that continued at least through the nineties. A T5 sounds like what you're after. A buddy of mine justed swaped a T5 into his 67 Mustang, bolted right up, no problems.
